WHO ARE WE?
Founded in continued response to Pope John Paul II’s call for a “New Evangelization,” the Catholic News Agency (CNA) has been, since 2004, one of the fastest growing Catholic news providers to the English speaking world.
CNA strives to provide free, up-to-the-minute news affecting the Universal Church, giving particular emphasis to the words of the Holy Father and happenings of the Holy See, to any person with access to the internet. CNA takes particular pride in offering free access to its news items to Catholic Dioceses, parishes, and websites in order to increase awareness of the activities of the universal Church and further create a Catholic culture in the life of each of the faithful. Though its focus is spread throughout the world, CNA also keeps a close eye on the Roman Catholic Church in the United States and on news related to the creation of a culture of life.
Origins
The Catholic News Agency takes much of its mission from its sister agency, ACI Prensa, which was founded in Lima, Peru, in 1980 by Fr. Adalbert Marie Mohm (†1986).
It was the German missionary’s desire to provide a steady flow of Catholic news to the secular media and to end-users in order to increase the visibility of the Catholic Church in the public square and help in its mission.
Today ACI Prensa (www.aciprensa.com) is the largest and most visited web-provider of Catholic news in Spanish and Portuguese.
Catholic News Agency is under the guidance of Mr. Alejandro Bermúdez, who serves as editor-in-chief of CNA and ACI Prensa. Mr. Bermúdez, a Peruvian journalist, received his training in Social Communications from the University of Lima. In addition to serving as head of CNA and ACI Prensa, he is also the Latin American correspondent for Our Sunday Visitor, the National Catholic Register, and the Spanish magazine Razón y Fe.
In accord with its goal to provide Catholic news free of charge, CNA and ACI Prensa are funded, almost entirely, by gifts from our readers and benefactors.
CNA is a 501c3 tax exempt organization.
