OTL: Let’s be Thankful

Lamar playoff practice OTL

A very happy thanksgiving to all! Time sure flies doesn’t it? We’re already heading into Week 13 of the NFL season. Isaiah Likely missing a touchdown by a toe feels like it happened just last week.

Anyway, the theme of the day is being thankful. And what is it we should be thankful for? Well, this might be a bit cheesy, but I’m thankful for the Baltimore Ravens.

One of my mottos in life is “it could always be worse.” No matter how unfortunate something seems, there’s always one little thing that can make a bad situation much, much worse. I suppose this is my way of trying to find positivity in bad situations.

So let’s take a look at the Ravens. They are not a perfect football team, but they are a very, very good football team. Do they have their issues? Of course. Yet, they are still regarded as one of the most well-run machines in football. They do their business with a certain amount of dignity. An example that comes to mind is the Hollywood Brown trade. Brown had wanted out of Baltimore for months, and the Ravens were able to keep it quiet. Then, they were able to trade the receiver who didn’t want to be there and ended up acquiring the draft pick they used on Tyler Linderbaum. That’s an organization that knows what it’s doing.

Now let’s take a look at two other teams in this league.

The Giants and the Jets have been two halves of the circus that is football in New York City. Both teams have missed on highly-drafted quarterbacks. Both teams have lost a lot of football games. And both teams can’t seem to stay out of the news.

“Hard Knocks” in the offseason might not have been the best idea. We all know how this situation unfolded. They paid Daniel Jones. They let Saquon Barkley walk. They then cut Daniel Jones, who is now in Minnesota. The Ravens paid their guy, and their guy might win another MVP this year.

I don’t think I need to say much about the Jets. They had a promising young team that just needed a capable quarterback. They sent a haul of draft picks to get Aaron Rodgers. The head coach and GM have both been fired. The Jets are probably en route to another rebuilding phase. This is a team that hasn’t made the playoffs since Rex Ryan was their head coach.

New York may have gotten the better of Baltimore in baseball this year. But now that it’s football season, we can all point at them and laugh.

So, let’s all be thankful that our team is one of the most professional operations in this league. It can always be worse, folks. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
