The Four Sins of Man

Through-out the ages mankind has been plagued with the realities of their own existence. The inherent instinct of survival has dominated of us all. Many of our actions are driven by what is known as the four sins of man; Greed, Lust, Hate and Ignorance. Ever since Adam and Eve the virtuous side of man has succumbed to either one or all of these four sins.

Today is no different by the actions of so many. The realities that are being placed on humanity too many times are so far removed from their hopes and dreams. The world is ablaze with terror and unspeakable horrific circumstances so many are forced into. All over the world the needless assault on human dignity is being played out daily.

The weakness of governments to address the imbalances in their societies is quite evident. It is their failure to recognize what their policies and actions have done. Government is an institution either a Democratic or Totalitarian that is formed to have and establish some form of order in a society. Many can recall the novel “Lord of The Flies” where anarchy ruled. To have a society degenerate into anarchy is why governments are vital to establish some semblance of order and law.

A footnote in history: Ancient Rome was a democratic republic that is until Julious Ceasar. From then on Rome was turned into a totalitarian state ruled by a dictator. Today thanks to the great American experiment of 1776 the United States led much of the world to rethink the role of government. The transformation from a monarchy ruling class to what ancient Greece founded has reshaped the course of history.

But today those four sins of man are reshaping the role of governments and the rule of law. The US has the dubious role in playing avital part in creating the imbalances in societies. The vast resources available to elevate everyone’s quality of life and bring balance in society are never applied equally. Like that opening to “The Six Million Dollar Man” we have the technology’ And today we actually do have the technology and the resources but again are never applied equally. 

With the recent onslaught of this hurricane season impacting much of the US especially the southeast region the devastation left behind an enduring legacy of how ineffective government has been in securing the technology and resources that would have greatly reduced the horrific aftereffects. Ever since the mid 1970′s the scientific community has been warning the world about the coming apoplectic effects of our continued mass consumption of fossil fuels will do to the earth environment. 

The US has had over 50 years to augment our energy usage using alternate energy sources that would go a long way to curb global warming. And in effect reduce the chances that more devastating weather conditions won’t wash up on the coast of the world like the ones most recently in Florida. The climate will always produce tropical storms and hurricanes but not the frequency in which they are formed. The aftereffects of any weather related, or other natural disaster always affects and impacts the less wealthy the most. For they are the ones that can’t acquire the needed resources that would greatly diminish many of the effects when a disaster strikes.

The delicate balance of nature has been greatly disrupted by man’s indifference to humanity and nature. And when we have government, whose policies have contributed to the widespread imbalances in societies and our environment that government becomes corrupted. It is this corruption that manifests itself into what we are witness too all around the world. The ineffectiveness of government to address these issues breeds discontent, civil unrest, more corruption and eventually armed aggression. All of which has placed mankind on the brink. 

When General MacArthur quoted at the signing of Japan’s surrender following World War II “If man does not find a peaceful means to solve their differences Armageddon will be on our doorstep” has been right all along. Yet armed aggression seems to be man’s recourse by succumbing to the four sins of man. Until governments of the world realize just what mankind is doing to humanity, the environment and our planet those four sins will predicate more injustices all over the world, When man embraces greed, lust, hate and ignorance above all else these four sins manifest into The Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse. Will the virtuous side of man prevail? That remains to be seen.
