Good evening. It has been more than 75 hours since 31 migrants were kidnapped by armed men on Saturday night on a stretch of road in Tamaulipas. And as of tonight there has been no word of them. Just earlier today President Lopez Obrador touched on the subject. But this is one more kidnapping, one more kidnapping that seems to be a constant on the northern highways of Mexico. 3 days after this event there is still no information about who took them and whether they’re still alive or not.
On December 30 at 7:26 p.m. one of the drivers of bus # 9570 of the company Grupo Senda left Reynosa for Matamoros with 36 people on board. Soon after a call was made to the 911 emergency line that a group of armed men aboard 5 vehicles intercepted them on the Reynosa – Matamoros. Highway. They forced 31 passengers to get off and took them away in the 5 vehicles to an unknown destination. Initial reports indicated that the passengers who were abducted are migrants of different nationalities.
Their names are not known. It has been reported that the bus company Grupo Senda sold them the tickets without asking them for identification as the rest of the bus lines are known to do. They were on their way to their appointment to request humanitarian aid in the United States. At least three of them were children under 3 years of age. The criminals left 5 people on the bus. After the emergency call, the two drivers and three Mexican passengers were helped and escorted to the Matamoros bus terminal. The search for the 31 migrants on one of the most dangerous highways in the country continues so far without any results. The main hypothesis is that they were abducted to be extorted.
