I receive paranormal type calls on my paranormal hotline. Some of the calls are mediocre in nature, a deceased relative passed away and is now haunting the house. The deceased relative is usually bothering the client in some way or another and they want that deceased relative to leave the house. I usually take care of the calls and explain to the client on how to bless their home and send that pesky relative to the light. There are those few rare calls that really get my attention and this is one of them. The client’s name is KiLee Harris from the state of Maine. KiLee in 2011 stayed at the Mount Washington Hotel. KiLee experienced some very odd paranormal activity at this hotel. But before we get into KiLee’s story, let me give you a bit of history on this hotel.
FROM WIKIPEDIA
The Mount Washington Hotel was constructed between 1900 and 1902 at a cost of $1.7 million (approximately $64 million today) by Joseph Stickney, a native of Concord, New Hampshire who had made a fortune before the age of 30 as a coal broker in Pennsylvania. In 1881 Stickney and his partner, John N. Conyngham, had purchased the nearby Mount Pleasant Hotel (a large early hotel demolished in 1939) from lumberman John T.G. Leavitt.[4] Subsequently, Stickney began work on his Mount Washington Hotel. He had envisioned the hotel to be a luxurious getaway for urban dwellers looking to escape the city. There is a popular urban legend that the Mount Washington Hotel served as inspiration for the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s novel The Shining (1977) and the subsequent film adaptation. King is a native of nearby Maine and has set several of his novels in New Hampshire. Regardless, King and the Mount Washington Hotel themselves have discredited this legend, with King stating the hotel was based on The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. END OF WIKIPEDIA
The Omni Mount Washington Resort & Spa is located in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. If you ever want to visit this gorgeous hotel, the address is: 310 Mount Washington Hotel Rd, Bretton Woods, NH 03575. It’s part of the Bretton Woods Ski Area. I learn that the Omni Mount Washington Resort is considered a haunted place, with reports of paranormal activity. The famous ghost of this hotel is Carolyn Foster Stickney. Carolyn was the wife of the hotel’s founder. Carolyn’s apparition is seen all over the hotel. The one room that Carolyn frequents the most is Room 314. She loves to sit on the edge of the bed. Another ghost that hangs out at the hotel is Charles Cook, the hotel’s caretaker, who is believed to linger in the stables. Charles is known to sometimes look at a guest for a few minutes, smile and then vanish. One client says that his stare makes them feel uncomfortable and then we he vanishes and that can be scary.
Now back to the ghost known as Caroline Foster Stickney. She is also known as the Princess. The staff members gave her that name. Long time resident Caroline became known as “The Princess” after marrying a French royal named Jean Baptiste Marie de Faucigny Lucinge. Princess Caroline Foster’s ties to the resort go back to its inception, when her first husband, railroad tycoon Joseph Stickney, built the grand resort in 1902. Caroline loved the hotel and especially loved the resort. Caroline had her own “Princess Room” that included an indoor swimming pool and a private dining room. The regal Caroline is sighted by many tourists and guests. Guests have described her as being elegant in her mannerisms. She is often seen in a Victorian dress gliding down the hallways. Caroline likes to cause small disturbances like tapping on doors, only for the guest to discover that there is no one outside of the door. The guest will usually think…”it must be Caroline playing her games.” Objects within the guestrooms will also suddenly disappear and then reappear in the exact place they were lost. The hauntings at Omni Mount Washington are legendary. Many ghost hunting groups enjoy exploring this famous hotel.
KiLee tells me that guests have complained about lights turning on and off on their own, as well as items disappearing and reappearing in strange locations. Other guests report smelling a floral perfume in the middle of the night. KiLee says that she has talked with guests that heard music coming from the ballroom and they were able to see ghostly apparitions dancing and then fading away. KiLee says she didn’t experience any of this. KiLee says her experience was different from everyone else. KiLee claims she saw two twin girls staring at her from the end of the hallway. The very same twin girls from the movie The Shining. KiLee says…”you know the Mount Washington Hotel was the inspiration for Stephen King’s the Shining?” I had to correct KiLee and explain to her the hotel inspiration for the Shining was actually two hotels. They were The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado and Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon. After KiLee did her own research, she saw that I was correct. KiLee believed that Stephen King did not want to give credit to the Mount Washington Hotel. I explained to KiLee she probably encountered a Tulpa. KiLee believed so hard that the Mount Washington Hotel was the inspiration for The Shining, that she projected the image of the two twins from the movie. I also explained to KiLee a famous case of a Tulpa. The author Walter B. Gibson who created the character The Shadow, thought of his creation so much that he projected the Shadow with his mind. Friends and family who visited Gibson saw a man dressed in all black clothing with a red scarf around his mouth appear in Gibson’s home. This character had a very long nose and wore a black fedora hat. Gibson’s family and friends were describing The Shadow! This entity was projected from Gibson’s mind. Other people throughout history have projected energy images from their mind. There have been people who have projected the image of Slenderman, a fictional internet creation. If you believe in something hard enough, it may actually come alive from your thoughts. I asked KiLee has she ever seen the twins again and her answer is no. KiLee believes that she had created a Tulpa, because before she visited the hotel, she thought of the creepy twins from the movie a lot. KiLee says it all makes sense now. It was bugging her for a long time and decided it was time for answers and gave me a call inquiring about her strange experience.
