Jared Kushner and his Real Estate Developments in Serbia and Elsewhere

One can only wonder why Jared is mixing himself up in dubious relationships with his Affinity Fund and Real Estate around the world. His deals hit the fan this week in Serbia. Fortunately for him, his father-in-law keeps the press busy so this protest ranks low on the totem pole for now.  However in time, the press will sniff blood in the water and his ventures could cause big time problems for his father.

BELGRADE — After years of secretive negotiations and involvement from Serbia’s political elite, Jared Kushner’s investment firm Affinity Partners has officially secured a 99-year permit to develop a luxury compound in Belgrade.The current government was forced to admit its negotiations with Affinity Partners after an opposition politician leaked details of the deal earlier this year. The deal has faced outrage in Serbia, centered mostly around the building’s historical significance — in particular, that a U.S. company would be redeveloping the symbol of a Washington-led bombing campaign.

“The Government of Serbia has chosen a reputable American company as a partner in this venture, which will invest in the revitalization of the complex of the former Federal Secretariat for National Defense,” Goran Vesić, Serbia’s construction and infrastructure minister, said in a written release.

Serbia has not been stable. A brawl broke out in the Serbian parliament between the ruling coalition and the opposition over a train station roof collapse that killed 15 people earlier in November. This amid accusations of corruption.

Kushner’s more recent interest in real estate blends a taste for exotic properties, adventure and geopolitics.

This is not their only venture.

He plans to build a $1.4bn luxury resort on Sazan, Albania’s only island in the Mediterranean and a former military base. His fund has already broken ground on converting the old Yugoslav Ministry of Defence building in Belgrade, Serbia, into a posh hotel and luxury complex.

Saudi Arabia is Affinity Partners’ main backer, with its sovereign wealth fund giving Kushner $2bn dollars. As of December last year, the UAE and Qatar have also contributed a combined $1.5bn to the fund.

With the Gulf money, Affinity Partners has invested in two Israeli companies: Phoenix Holdings, an insurance company, and the car leasing division of Shlomo Holdings, whose parent company, Shmeltzer Holdings, is part owner of Israel Shipyards, the only domestic shipbuilder for the Israeli navy.

In conclusion, perhaps Kushner may in the end create the same problems that Hunter posed for his father.

Washington, D.C. – Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-M.D.) called today on Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel to investigate possible violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by Jared Kushner, son-in-law and former senior White House advisor to ex-President Donald Trump.

As part of investigations launched last Congress by House and Senate Democrats, Senate investigators have uncovered that since the end of the Trump administration through mid-2024, Kushner’s firm Affinity Partners has received as much as $157 million in fees from foreign clients—including $87 million from the Saudi government—while generating no return on investment, paying zero earnings to investors, and investing only a small fraction of funds it has received from the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Public reports indicate that Kushner remained politically active throughout that time period, particularly on matters of U.S. foreign policy related to the Middle East.
