Asioryctes: now closer to tenrecs in the LRT

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Again obvious on hingsight.
Late Cretaceous Asioryctes (Fig 1) now nests basal to Indohyus (Fig 2) and Tenrec (Figs 1, 2) in the large reptile tree (LRT, 2338 taxa, subset Fig 3).

Of course, these taxa remain basal to pakicetids through odontocetes.

Novacek et al 2023 reported,
“Here we report four new specimens of A. nemegtensis from the Djadokhta Formation and document its first co-occurrence with its sister taxon, Ukhaatherium nessovi. “

The LRT does not confirm that sister-taxon interrelationship.

The well-known fragility
of the mammal subset of the LRT had been confounding housekeeping for 349 days when this interrelationship of long-snouted taxa finally popped to the surface. This latest version also separates kangaroos (Macropus) from wombats (Vombatus) for the first time.

Still the work remains unfinished.

The 3x convergence of placental reproduction
revealed by the LRT was first proposed by Wortman 1902.

This appears to be a novel hypothesis of interrelationships.
