Kia Introduces V2H Charging for EV9 Owners
Kia has introduced Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) charging technology for eligible EV9 drivers, enabling them to use their vehicle’s battery to power their homes during outages or manage energy consumption. This feature requires the Wallbox Quasar 2 bidirectional charger and a Power Recovery Unit, with preorders starting in June. Homes need at least 200-amp service and may require utility permissions. The system also supports solar panels, allowing energy flow management between the car, home, and grid.
The Quasar 2 charger and Power Recovery Unit are priced around $6,500, excluding taxes and installation. The EV9’s battery can power a typical U.S. home for about three days.
Additionally, Kia offers a Smart Charge app that schedules vehicle charging during cost-effective times and plans to introduce Vehicle-to-Grid services, enabling customers to sell excess energy back to the grid.
These advancements highlight Kia’s commitment to enhancing EV ownership by integrating smart charging solutions and energy management capabilities.
