Eoplesiosaurus: an early plesiosaur, of course
Very little to say about this recent addition
to the large reptile tree (LRT, 2338 taxa). It has no special traits because it is transitional from one grade to another. Benson, Evans and Druckenmiller 2012 described this specimen. Meet Eoplesiosaurus (Fig 1).

Eoplesiosaurus antiquior
(Benson, Evans and Druckmiller 2012, Earliest Jurassic, TTNCM 8348; 199mya) is known from a complete articulated skeleton lacking a skull. It is one of the earliest plesiosauroids. In the LRT Eoplesiosaurus is a sister to Plesiosaurus nesting at the base of the rest of the elasmosaurids. The few differences that can be scored in the LRT from Plesiosaurus are found in the metapodials and digits of the flippers.
