Chicago White Sox prospect has big aspirations for this season
The Chicago White Sox should have a very interesting spring training with inviting 24 players to spring training.
One of those prospects Edgar Quero who was rated as the MLB’s number 66 overall prospect has a chance to make an impact on the White Sox roster this season.
In a recent interview, Quero discussed his journey coming to the United States from Cuba to his dreams of making the major leagues.

The 21-year-old Quero came over to the White Sox in the trade that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López to the Los Angeles Angels back in 2023. Quero is known more for his offensive abilities with his defensive abilities straying far behind. That is clear with having above-average and average grades for his hit tool (55/80) and power (50/80) and below average for his fielding (45/80).
Last season Quero played at Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte where he played in 98 games and had a solid offensive season. In those 98 games, Quero had decent power numbers hitting 16 doubles and home runs, 70 RBI, with a slash line of .280/.366/.463 for an OPS of .829.
During his interview with Chuck Garfien, he asked about what it would be like to become a big leaguer saying he dreams about it every night.

Quero has the chance to make that dream a reality for this season by being one of the players invited to spring training. Quero also spoke about his journey coming from Cuba to the U.S. and how important it was for him to learn English.

Outlook for Quero this season
As I said Quero has an invite to this spring training to show if he is capable of hitting major league pitching, but also to show he is capable of handling a staff. Quero will have his work cut out for him however with at this point being the third option on the depth chart behind Korey Lee and newly acquired prospect Kyle Teel.
With needing to improve his defense Quero will figure to start the year in Triple-A to get consistent at-bats and work on his receiving ability and handling a pitching staff. If Quero can improve defensively and with his bat being as advanced as it is he could force his way up to the bigs if he has a solid month or two.
A big test this spring
Quero will have to come ready to go this spring if he wants to make the club.
He has all the ability to make the team it’s just a matter of honing his craft.
If Quero can do that then he could be the future backstop for the White Sox.
