OTL: This Trio is Finally Going to Happen
As NFL Free Agency chugs along, we finally saw the Ravens get active on Tuesday, making one fairly expected signing, and one that was a bit of a surprise.
First, who likes pancakes? FB Pat Ricard, or fan-favorite “Project Pat,” will be returning to Baltimore:

While it’s just a one-year deal, it’s an extremely cheap one for Baltimore, essentially under $1.5M on the cap.
Ravens signing Patrick Ricard to same type of (five-year qualifying offer) deal that LB Malik Harrison signed last year. It will be in the $2.9 million range.
Ricard will have a cap hit of just under $1.44 million.— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) March 11, 2025
For me, and many fans, Ricard is money well spent. His value is higher in Charm City than it would’ve been anywhere else, especially following the release of San Francisco FB Kyle Juszczyk. As Ryan Mink states here, Ricard is a huge part of the Ravens’ identity:
Patrick Ricard is part of the Ravens’ offensive identity.
Opponents saw (and felt) the nightmare of a 300-pound fullback blocking for a 247-pound running back last season.#KeepItRollinghttps://t.co/AXjOUYXzh4

In the afternoon, a few announcements were made. In terms of the roster, the secondary continued to be cleaved:
The Ravens are releasing S Marcus Williams.
A move that is not so surprising. pic.twitter.com/jlQwYBSJM5

Ravens plan to release CB Arthur Maulet, per source.
Maulet had a very strong 2023 season in Baltimore as slot CB but was limited to just 3 games in 2024 due to injury.
— Cameron Wolfe (@CameronWolfe) March 11, 2025
While Arthur Maulet had a tough season with injuries and wasn’t the first name that jumped to my mind when it came to cuts, the move does make sense financially:
Maulet and Marcus Williams were always viewed as the most likely salary cap casualties from the Ravens. Williams will be let go tomorrow, a move that was a formality after the two sides altered his contract in January to facilitate his exit this offseason. https://t.co/fx0Dj9i6Dg

Meanwhile, the organization’s favorite topic – compensatory picks – came back up, with Baltimore officially receiving the maximum of four.
The Ravens have been awarded four compensatory picks in next month’s draft for their losses in last year’s free agency:
Round 4 (No. 136 overall)
Round 5 (No. 176)
Round 6 (No. 210)
Round 6 (No. 212)They now have 11 picks total.

You can’t be mad about that, but as a note, EDC hasn’t been particularly successful with such picks of late:
Bal comp picks last 4 yrs:
21: Brandon Stephens, CB (R3)
21: Ben Mason, FB (R5)
22: Damarion Williams, CB (R4)
24: Devin Leary, QB (R6)#Ravensflock . None of those guys are on the team anymore Getting congratulated for losing talent they drafted & not r/s smh https://t.co/jHI3SepWEM— 8 way or NO WAY

Still, the more bites at the apple, the better.
At that point in the day, with our LT and FB locked up, a few key departures out the door, and four compensatory picks announced, things looked “fine” for the Ravens:

Then, while I would’ve called the timing of the announcement a shock rather than the name, this news dropped:

That’s right, we’re officially recreating the photo from Lamar Jackson’s legendary MVP award ceremony:

For just $6M, you can’t be mad at this move. Many will talk about Baltimore being the “graveyard” for receivers, but remember, Hopkins is coming in as WR3. In the past, these guys have been touted as the new top target.
Surely, Nuk will be better than Nelson Agholor.

— Ivan Evans (@CoachEvans9) March 12, 2025
To be clear I don’t think DHop will be great but in the past when the Ravens signed past their prime wrs they tried to sell them as a number one. With Zay and Bateman they just need Hopkins to be a solid wr3. I think he can more than handle that
— Ken Weinman (@KenWeinmanSport) March 11, 2025
Additionally, in terms of fit in the offense, a jump-ball guy was the only thing missing on the outside (along with depth). Hopkins is still capable of being that guy, and he gets open, too:
The #Ravens needed a ball winner in the mix.
He’s not the DHop of old but he still has a complimentary skillset that provides the needed depth this WR group needed.
Excellent addition.#RavensFlock
— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) March 11, 2025
It’s obviously not going to hit like it did in his prime, but Hopkins does add a skillset that the Ravens lack at WR.
Had more contested catches than any receiver on the Ravens roster last season.
— Gordon McGuinness (@PFF_Gordon) March 11, 2025
With DeAndre Hopkins on board, the Ravens now have four receivers who finished inside the top 25 of ESPN’s “open score” last year.
No. 7 Mark Andrews
No. 9 Zay Flowers
No. 12 Rashod Bateman
No. 22 DeAndre Hopkinshttps://t.co/98TQjY2DyN— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) March 12, 2025
Last but not least, he should be a great addition to the locker room. Not only is Hopkins thought of highly as a person across the league, but he’s expressed clear desire to play with Lamar Jackson before. What’s more, it sounds like RB Derrick Henry was a big part of bringing D-Hop to Charm City:
DeAndre Hopkins on Lamar Jackson in May 2023: “He’s one of the greats. I would be lying to sit here and say it wouldn’t be an honor one day … to play with a great guy and a great quarterback like Lamar.”pic.twitter.com/9c39LxH3ET
— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) March 11, 2025
#Ravens Derrick Henry reportely was big in recruiting DeAndre Hopkins to Baltimore, they both played with the #Titans together. pic.twitter.com/veBnQZU7u0

With these moves, the Ravens’ unofficial depth chart, courtesy of Cole Jackson, looks as such:

I highly doubt there will be any splashes in the coming days, but there might be room for some depth signings. In my eyes, CB, G, and ILB would be the top priorities, later addressing Safety, Tackle, WR and those previously mentioned in the draft.
As we head into Wednesday (though I’m sure this list will change by the time you’re reading this), here are the names to watch:
Going into day 3 of FA. Best remaining at #Ravens positions of need.
CB:
Rasul Douglas
Kendall fuller
Asante Samuel Jr
Mike Hilton
Darius slay
Stephon Gilmore
Jonathon jones
Shaq GriffinS:
Juan Thornhill
Justin Simmons
Julian Blackmon
Damar Hamlin
