The bands of blood-red water that appeared to be flowing from the bow of a cruise ship moored on the eastern side of Canada Place Wednesday were likely from algae blooms, say authorities at Port Metro Vancouver.

I had the interesting fortune to take a tour boat up the Cuyahoga River (Ohio) in the mid 60′s, when it was the most polluted river in the U.S. This was several years before it caught fire for the last time in 1969. It was a wonderful thing to behold. It would change color each time it went past another factory, as new chemicals reacted with the last mix to form new compounds.
