Discovering Agriculture in the City proved to be a huge success, as farmers, ag organizations, and industry partners joined forces to share how food is produced on the farm. With so many urban dwellers now one or two generations removed from agriculture, the connection to where food comes from has faded, or was never formed.
The aim of the event is to connect urban residents with agriculture by featuring interactive displays in malls and engaging in discussions with actual farmers. This initiative seeks to help people reconnect with the essential relationship between local producers and the food they consume.
It helps dispel common myths, and sometimes genuine beliefs, that milk comes from the corner store and ice cream from the freezer. These events offer a hands-on opportunity to how how food journeys from the farm to the table, reminding people behind every product is a farmer, a process, and a purpose.
