Free Agency Day 3: Jets add Offense, Defense and Specials
Jets GM Darren Mougey was a busy man on the third day of free agency as the GM addressed all three phases of the game with what should be a handful of depth players, but may have one starter in the group. Here’s a full rundown of what has transpired thus far.
OT Chuwuma Okorafor: This is a low risk/high reward move that may net the Jets a starting right tackle in 2025.
Okorafor was a starting right tackle for the Steelers from 2020-2023 before signing with the Patriots prior to the 2024 season. In New England, he struggled and was pulled from the game in week 1. As a result, Okorafor left the team and did not return.
There was no word on whether or not Okorafor was dealing with something off the field as the situation was odd to say the least. Now he looks to make a return and does it with the Jets. Can he reclaim his status as a starter? If not, he’s likely a quality backup at a key spot.
OC Josh Myers: Another player who has plenty of starting experience with a winning organization, Myers started for the past four years in Green Bay after serving as Josh Fields’ center in college at Ohio State. Myers gets a 1-year deal and should be a nice backup to Joe Tippmann.
DB Isaiah Oliver: A versatile defender who did an admirable job for the Jets last season, Oliver returns on a 1-year deal go give Gang Green a nice chess piece on offense as Oliver has played corner, safety and nickel.
Edge Rashad Weaver: Weaver is listed as an edge player but has done most of his work on special teams where the Jets will look to replace some of the personnel they lost this offseason. The Pitt produce was a fourth-round pick in 2021 and logged 5.5 sacks in 2022 but played just 14 snaps last season.
